Elaine Duff

Elaine Duff

I learnt to play bridge at university but didn’t start playing duplicate until 2008 when I started playing again after a 10 year break. I play regularly for both Hitchin and Royston Bridge Clubs but it is with Hitchin that I am mostly involved with directing and encouraging players to improve through workshops. With one of my bridge partners I have entered some of the local county competitions.

I was born in Yorkshire and although I have spent over 45 years in the south I still see myself as a Yorkshire lass. I am a proud grandmother of a boy 11 and two girls 9 and 2. I have found that being with them is a delight and entertaining them is one of life’s pleasures. As yet I haven’t been able interest them enough to learn to play bridge. My spare time is taken up with visiting the gym, reading fiction, mainly mysteries, and attending some of the many courses available for retirees. I love travelling and having lived in Australia for three years in the early 2000s. My partner and I visit there once every couple of years. For the large part of my working life I was a teacher of mathematics and was lucky to be involved in consultancy work and lecturing before I fully retired in 2011.
