Reboot Your Acol

These few days of seminars are for anyone who wants to improve their bridge. They are run by Britain's best-known bridge teacher, Bernard Magee.

There are 6 seminar sessions with Bernard, and 6 sessions of supervised play with Bernard's team (not with Bernard). Optional duplicate session every evening (not directed by Bernard).

Seminar Topics

Revising your basic opening bids and planning your rebid. Sounds easy, but a lot of pifalls!

Revising your basic responses and planning the rest of the auction. This is key to landing in the best contract.

Responding to 1NT

Staman and transfers give a full system in response to 1NT – I recommend that most players play this system because a 1NT opening is a very frequent bid (especially the weak no-trump), so having a precise system of responses is important. Furthermore, since it comes up a lot you will get plenty of use out of it!

Duplicate bridge is so much more competitive now and it is important you are part of this. Knowing the reasons for overcalling and understanding them will allow you to compete more and at the right time. Lead-directing, sacrificing, competing and disrupting are just some of the right reasons for getting in to the auction after your opponents have opened.

Laws and Ethics

Improving Bridge Memory

Remembering every card is a dream for most of us. However, learn ways in which to remember the important things. What was the first discard or how many trumps are left out?

Other Information

One, Two, Three or Four Players

Whatever the game we will be able to accommodate you - finding partners or team-mates whenever necessary.

Non-Bridge Activities [Walking & Outings]

Do remember this is your break - you are free to roam the countryside, or visit one of the many local attractions in the area. Or of course you can simply take a break - watch some sport or lie down for a siesta or visit villages and towns for some shopping!

Checking Out (1100 on day of departure)

The hotel would like clients to check out before 11am on the day of departure. Therefore we advise that you check out after breakfast - bags can be stored for the rest of the day.

For those wishing to give gratuities to the staff - we do make available a collection bag on the day of departure - contributions are strictly optional and we hand this bag over to the staff at the end of the event.
