unethical bidding

edited July 2009 in All Things Bridge
You need 20 for rubber and pick up a flat 21 pts with 6 certain tricks. After 2 passes you open 1NT and then the opponents contest the auction and eventually go 2 down doubled vulnerable in 3 diamonds. Is the 1NT misleading/unethical?

It is entirely normal to change your bidding if you have points below the line towards game. I would think this is generally understood. Of course, if you and your partner have specific agreements about bidding in these positions these should be disclosed.
